In addition to selling the new album “…Earth To The Dandy Warhols…” on iTunes, the Dandy Warhols are offering it as also as a  “subscription service” to their fans.  For $34.99/year here is what is included:

1) the new record as a digital download before the CD release

2) a physical copy of the CD mailed to your home

3) a limited edition silkscreen poster

4) 10% off merch online and pre-sale ticket access

The new album (in full) is available right now on their website as streaming audio.  Fanclubs aren’t really anything new, but it is interesting to see how more bands are breaking away from the major labels and coming up with creative ways to make money.  The price seems a bit steep unless you are one of the Dandy Warhol’s “1000 true fans“. I think they would have served the average fan better if it was only $10 for:  download + 10%merch +  pre-sale-ticket deal.

Unfortunately the “Download” button (which is where you would go to join - who knew) is very tiny.  They should make that a bit more prominent if this is really something they are trying to push.
